Modern motherboards typically have two types of RAM slots: SO-DIMM (Small Outline DIMM) slots for laptops and DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) slots for desktop computers. DDR (Double Data Rateslots no wagering) generations like DDR3, DDR4, and DDR5 are among the memory types that each type of slot can support. DIMM slots are usually larger & made to fit standard-sized RAM modules, whereas SO-DIMM slots are smaller and made to fit laptops and small form factor devices. RAM slots differ not only physically but also electrically & in terms of compatibility with various memory technologies.
