Depending on the rummy variation, each player starts the game with a set number of cards. With the top card turned face-up to begin the discard pisatta,,kingle, the remaining cards form a face-down draw pile. Each player takes a turn drawing a card from either pile, after which they discard one card. The draw pile is not depleted until no player remains out or until a player successfully completes all necessary combinations and exits the game.
